Wir Menschen haben alle unsere Schwächen und Probleme. Angst ist wie der ungeliebte Nachbar, der einen auf etwas aufmerksam machen möchte — doch wir drängen ihn weg, bis es nicht mehr geht. Die folgenden sieben Tipps sollen Ihnen dabei helfen, sowohl Ihr Bauchgefühl als auch Ihren Kopf bei Entscheidungen einzusetzen und daraus den für Sie passenden Weg und die für Sie richtige Entscheidung abzuleiten. Ok, es gibt leichte und schwierigere Entscheidungen.


Und sei es nur, um einen Fremden nach dem Weg oder der Uhrzeit zu fragen. Und dann unternehmen sie etwas, um das Problem aus der Welt zu schaffen. Dabei gilt meistens: wer selbstbewusst auftritt, kann von seiner Umgebung auch eine positiveres Feedback erwarten.

Andere haben regelrecht Angst davor — selbst, wenn Sie gute Arbeit geleistet haben. Und meist fühlt sich das wie ein Handicap an. Wer in Meetings nicht gern das Wort ergreift, sondern sich in Zurückhaltung übt, wirkt gehemmt; wer Konfrontationen und Konflikten aus dem Weg geht, schwach. Für Deutschland schätzt etwa der Sozialpsychologe Bernardo Carducci ihre Zahl auf bis zu 50 Prozent der Bevölkerung, so die Hochrechnung seiner Stichproben. Um die eigene Schüchternheit zu überwinden, ist es allerdings erforderlich, sich darüber bewusst zu werden, warum und in welchen Situationen die Schüchternheit auftritt. Tatsächlich leiden Schüchterne oft an einer übersteigerten, ja geradezu selbstquälerischen : Alles, was sie sagen oder tun möchten, unterziehen sie schon vorab einer Zensur, wie es auf andere wirken könnte oder wie sie damit im Vergleich zu anderen abschneiden. Dabei zeigte sich: Je schüchterner die Studenten waren, desto stärker nutzten sie soziale Netzwerke im Internet und desto zufriedener waren sie mit ihren Freundschaften. Kurz: Sie fühlten sich verbundener, ungehemmter, freier — was sich wiederum positiv auf die Beziehungen auswirkte. Nun kann man freilich nicht jedem schüchternen Menschen raten: Geh doch ins Internet. Es muss noch andere Empfehlungen geben, seine Schüchternheit zu überwinden. Und in der Tat: Es gibt sie. Verstehen ist der erste Schritt zur Besserung. In welchen Situationen tritt die Schüchternheit besonders häufig auf. Finden Sie heraus, ob Ihre Schüchternheit notwendig war oder ob Sie mit der Situation auch anders umgehen könnten. Überdies gilt: Fordern Sie sich immer wieder heraus. Und sei es nur, um einen Fremden nach dem Weg oder der Uhrzeit zu fragen. Wer Angst vor der Bewertung anderer Menschen hat, trägt gerne eine Maske. Wenn ich ihm das sage, mag er mich nicht mehr… Ich hab davon zwar keine Ahnung, aber wenn ich schweige, merkt es auch der Chef… Schüchternheit lässt sich nicht ablegen, indem Sie nur darüber tipps gegen unsicherheit. Springen Sie stattdessen lieber mal ins kalte Wasser. Der beste Weg Schüchternheit loszuwerden, ist, die Bedenken Lügen zu strafen. Im Fachjargon heißen solche Gedanken übrigens Emotionsregulierung. Bei Networking-Events, auf oder bei ähnlichen Veranstaltungen ist ein sympathisches Lächeln immer noch der beste Eisbrecher. Sich nicht in der Vordergrund zu drängeln, ist eine Tugend, die viele schätzen. Wenn Sie also anfangs Sorge haben, das Falsche von sich preiszugeben, stellen Sie eben Fragen und gehen auf die Antworten Ihres Gegenübers ein. Schon bald wird der Sie mehr schätzen als jeden Draufgänger und Sprücheklopfer. Auch anderen Menschen verschlägt es gelegentlich die Sprache. Das ist menschlich, und dafür müssen Sie sich nicht schämen. Aalglatte und perfekte Menschen sind uninteressant. Versuchen Sie Ihre Fehler und Schwächen gelassen zu sehen. Wussten Sie etwa, dass allein das Erröten, was viele so fürchten, allenfalls eine Minute dauert und nach 15 Sekunden bereits seinen Höhepunkt erreicht hat. Also bitte keine Panik deswegen. Viele Menschen machen das instinktiv bei Stress, nur eben unbewusst. Daher verpufft die gute Wirkung. Machen Sie das aber ganz bewusst, tritt sofort Ruhe in der Oberstube ein. Gewinnen Sie lieber die Souveränität zurück. Auch wenn Sie dumm gefallen sind, machen Sie sich nicht zum Clown — Selbstironie im Übermaß lässt Sie nur wie eine Witzfigur aussehen. Womöglich ist den anderen nichts aufgefallen. Dumm, wenn man dann viel Aufhebens darum macht. Jetzt den Coolen zu markieren, wirkt reichlich abgebrüht. Mancher wird denken: Dem ist wohl gar nichts peinlich. Nur Menschen ohne Ruf und Gewissen handeln so.
